Belarus. News: PrimeCell a.s. and Actelion are planning to produce drugs in Belarus

Chairman of State Committee on Science and Technology (SCST) Igor Voitov on June 1 in Minsk discussed with representatives of pharmaceutical companies Actelion Pharmaceuticals Ltd (Switzerland) and PrimeCell as (Czech Republic), new areas of cooperation in the field of medicine and pharmacy in Belarus.

In particular, during the meeting the issue of establishing production facilities for the production of new drugs and substances for domestic medicine was discussed, as well as the possibility of opening a pilot center or laboratory for cell engineering.

"We are interested in establishing in Belarus production of original drugs. At present, the domestic pharmaceuticals market is closed somewhere up to 25%. However, during the four years we plan to increase this figure to 50%, "- said Voitov.

In turn, Director for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Actelion Pharmaceuticals Ltd Kraulets Richard said that the pharmaceutical business in Switzerland is interested in Belarusian market.

"We are trying to find ways how to establish mutually beneficial cooperation and to start producing drugs. For the Belarusian side it could lead to decline in imports of pharmaceutical products through its own production but for our company, taking into account the formation of the Customs Union - promising new markets ", - he said.

The sides also discussed the new directions in health care, including in the field of cell therapy. As the representative of PrimeCell as Igor Keblushek, Belarus and Czech Republic have achieved significant progress in the development of biomedical scienceand is currently focused on the production of innovative products that improve thequality of life.

Following the meeting the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation and agreedto prepare proposals to the concerned ministries and departments.
