Ukraine. Legislative initiatives concerning the state language policy

Several draft laws concerning the state language policy were prepared recently. Among others, the draft Law №1113 «On Amending the Law of Ukraine “On Principles of the State Language Policy” and Other Legislative Acts (on Improving the State Language Policy) was registered in VRU on 18 December 2012.

Article 23 of this Draft Law envisages that labeling of goods shall be made in the state language. Also the draft law provides that the directions for use of goods shall be made in the state language and in one of the regional languages or ethnic minority languages at the discretion of the goods manufacturer.

Also at the discretion of the goods manufacturers, the text in the state language and in the regional languages or ethnic minority languages may be accompanied by text in other languages.

Labeling of goods for export purposes and directions for use of goods for export purposes shall be made in any language at the discretion of their manufacturer.
