Russia. The Ministry of Healthcare proposes quotas to reduce the number of pharmacies
The Ministry of Healthcare is proposing introduction of quotas aimed at reducing the number of pharmacies per capita in Russia. On average, there is one pharmacy per 1,450 inhabitants in Russia, while in most foreign countries this figure is half or even five times lower.
As a result, in some regions the number of pharmacies exceeds the optimal level, which inevitably lowers their profitability.
According to the experts, the excessive number of competing pharmacies leads to decrease of the share of manufacturing pharmacies and those requiring special conditions for storage and supply of narcotic drugs and potent drugs.
